Know Your Sounds is the first of the instruction books and is a must read for all educators, tutors and parents. It clearly demonstrates how each of the phonetic sounds are formed, explains how the combination of letters affect the sound of vowels and many other phonetic rules. One educator stated that the Know Your Sounds book more clearly taught her phonetic rules than her entire quarter of the subject in college.

Handbooks for the Pre-primers, Primer and Sets 1, 2 and 3 follow the program page by page. At any point in the students progress you can refer to those specific pages in the Handbook for instructions and tips on how to make the learning progress smoothly.

The Pre-Primer series is made up of five books, one for each short vowel sound; "a", "o", "i", "u", "e". This order represents the simplest vowel to the most difficult to learn.

Set 1 includes short vowels and consonants, final blends, multi-syllable words, and some related sight word groups. This set is made up of the following books:

Primer
Book 1a, Final Blends
Book 1b, Phonics Practice
Book 1c, Sight Words and Suffix "y"
Book 1d, Multi-Syllable Words
Book 1e, Practice and Review

Set 2 covers consonant digraphs, initial consonant blends, vowel diphthongs, and several irregular spellings. This set is made up of the following books:

Book 2a, Consonant Digraphs
Book 2b, Initial Blends
Book 2c, "r" modified vowels
Book 2d, Vowel Diphthongs
Book 2e

Set 3, these six books introduce the long vowel sounds, the various ways to make those sounds, and provide practice with the sounds. Most children, by the time they reach these books, will have already been introduced to many of these words, and do already know the alphabet sounds of the vowels, so they are not new to them.

Book 3a, The "a" Book
Book 3b, The "e" Book
Book 3c, The "i" Book
Book 3d, The "o" Book
Book 3e, The "u" Book
Book 3f, Long Vowel Practice
Advanced Word Lists

Poetry Compilation - This book is a collection of all the poetry and other readings that appear throughout the program.

The construction of the books is simple and useful. Covers are heavy cardstock, bindings are comb bindings so books can be opened and laid flat on a surface.  Quality paper is used, front printing only in the Pre-Primer series, front and back printing in the more advanced books. Indexes are provided in each book, with page number references coordinating with sections of the Handbooks.
